Primary Types of Formworks Based on Structural Components

Contractors in the building and construction industry must carry out many processes to make their projects successful and last for a long time. One of the processes they must carry out is the formation of formwork.

The formwork works as a mould for structural components made from concrete. Once placed properly, it can ensure that the concrete will generate a form or shape based on the project requirements. Formwork is generated to build monolithic concrete and reinforced concrete structures. It is also maximised whenever structural components like foundations, columns, chimneys, bridges, and towers are constructed.

To date, contractors can generate various formworks based on materials. However, they can also be built based on structural components. Some of them are as follows.

Foundation Formwork

Foundation formworks built by various contractors can differ based on their general size and height. Formworks intended for individual foundations, for instance, can be similar to column formwork. Alternatively, formworks for strip foundations can closely resemble the ones for the formworks. To build foundation formworks, they would often be integrated with sheeting panels and formwork bearers or walers. Wall Formwork

Wall formwork has vertically arranged upright timbers or formwork bearers. The sheeting boards are then nailed at the concrete side of the formwork bearers. Horizontally arranged walers are subsequently placed on cleats at every third upright timber. The cleaning holes can ultimately be located at the formwork’s foot.

Ceiling Formwork

One of the most common formworks utilised in structures is the ceiling formwork. It maximises sheeting boards or prefabricated sheeting panels installed on squared timber formwork bearers. These formwork bearers intend to carry off the forces to round timber columns. Diagonal board bracings can be utilised to handle horizontally acting forces. The round timber columns with this formwork can serve as a correction device and stripping aid.

Beam Formwork

Beam formworks have prefabricated formwork sheeting parts, which include sheeting bottom and side sheeting panels. These parts have been manufactured according to the dimensions required by a specific project. A preparation table should be manufactured to effectively prefabricate formwork sheeting parts. The sheeting bottom and the side sheeting panels utilise sheeting boards that have been secured together with cover straps.

Column Formworks

Column formworks, ultimately, utilise prefabricated sheeting. Their sheeting panels are located in a foot rim that is installed in the soil through steel bolts. The foot rim has double-nailed boards and must be measured accurately. Once the sheeting panels have been integrated into the foot rim, the vertical arch timbers will take up the force from the formwork sheeting’s cover straps. The columns in these formworks are tied laterally with diagonal board braces.
